Mei architects and planners opted for gold aluminum: chic, vandal-proof and durable. The facade paneling acts as a 'veil', with heart-shaped perforations that depict a festive crowd.

On Friday 27 th March 2015 Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb officially opened the new pavilion for McDonald's on Coolsingel 44 in the centre of Rotterdam. The former pavilion - once voted the ugliest building in Rotterdam - no longer reflected the wishes and ambitions of either McDonald's and the city of Rotterdam.
